The Complete Video Editing Roadmap for Beginners

If you're starting your journey, here's your roadmap to become a Professional Video Editor

After reading this issue, you’ll have a clear path to becoming a Video Editor who earns in 6-Figures.

I’ll explain every single step in detail with this newsletter so that even if you’re just starting, you don’t miss anything.

And if you’re already a Video Editor earning a decent income, you’ll know the exact steps that will boost your income.

First Step

Why?

Assuming you don’t have any idea about a video editing career.

Let me actually tell you why you should choose it in the first place.

There are 114,000,000 YouTubers.

Yeah, 114 Million!

Almost anyone who grows past 5000 Subs will need a video editor to help them out with content creation.

You can be the one for them.

People pay shit tons of money if you have great video editing skills.

From $20 to $10,000+ per edit.

It’s a far better opportunity if compared to joining your engineering college that can’t even guarantee a job.

You don’t need to wait 6 years to graduate and spend thousands of dollars.

You can start editing videos professionally in 15 days and start earning $100,000+/yr if you follow this roadmap.

If this is not convincing enough, let me tell you that the one who is writing this newsletter was also a school failure and a loser.

If I am able to make it, you can too.

How

I’m convinced, now tell me how do I start the thing?

Well, first of all, you need to learn Video Editing (duhh)

But even before that, you’ll need to choose software.

There are 3 major software to choose from if you have a decent PC or Mac. (Mac’s are better)

  1. Premiere Pro

  2. Davinci Resolve

  3. Final Cut Pro

If you don’t, just start with Capcut or Lumafusion.

They’re good enough and they’ll help you make decent edits that will make you at least earn the amount that is enough for you to get a good device.

There are loads of tutorials and courses on YouTube if you wanna learn these programs.

Make sure you choose a project-based course where you’re not just watching the course but you’re editing with them

Second Step

Assuming that you already learnt the video editing software. It’s now time to make your edits better.

And not only that but you’ll need to learn more about YouTube and Filmmaking.

Here are a few topics that I want you to research about:

  1. How to make Animations on (chosen video editing app)

  2. Sound Designing on (chosen video editing app)

  3. Best Free and Paid Plugins (for chosen video editing app)

  4. Color Grading on (copy paste)

  5. Storytelling

  6. YouTube Retention

  7. YouTube Growth

The moment you have the knowledge of all these 7 aspects, you come in the top 10% of editors.

I’ve written loads of threads that I’m gonna attach here. Also, you can follow editing influencers on YouTube to learn more about these topics.

PS: I’ve discussed all of these in detail with my experience in my Upcoming Course. So if you miss something here, I’ll make sure that I’ve covered that over there.

Third Step

Now that you’re an above-average video editor…

You can finally start searching for clients so that they can give you the job of editing videos and you can finally earn from this video editing thing.

So apparently, there are ONLY 3 Ways of getting clients:

  1. Outreach:
In this method, you reach out to people who don’t know you.

This is one of the most widely used strategies and you can do it either through dms or emails.

Most people struggle to find the right client and send them a message that they can’t reject.

To tackle both of them. I talked to big video production company owners and got their secrets for booking clients.

Also, I got to know about one Super Secret tool that no one has ever talked about on social media.

That will make the job of finding clients a piece of cake.

You’re gonna get to know about that secret tool as well as a secret twitter strategy to find the right client.

When it comes to messaging or emailing, I’ve added templates that you can personalize and send.

That’ll make sure that no one actually rejects your video editing offer and you get the highest closing rate.

  2. Inbound:

This is what I personally used to scale my Video Production Agency.

This happens when your clients find you instead of you finding them.

    How does that happen?

You put out content that travels through space and time to bring clients to your doorstep.

Simply said: You post content to attract clients.

If you see the above threads, all of them were the ones that brought clients to me.

But the key here is to make content that goes viral so that you get that exposure.

How did I do that? How did I get millions of views on my threads?

Well I’ve covered all of that in the “Twitter Masterclass” section of my course.

That means now you can also create such awesome threads and write viral tweets.

  3. Referral:

This is how I got my first-ever client.

When your friends and your current clients refer you to someone who can hire you, that’s called Referral.

This is a very unsustainable method of finding clients so I don’t believe in that.

Although there are people who praise this a lot.

It’s up to you if you wanna go with something where your input=output or if you just wanna rely on others to get new clients.

It can be an additional method to the above methods, but never try to make this your primary source of getting clients.

Fourth Step

Now that you have a constant stream of client

It’s time for you to understand you can’t work with all of them together if you’re alone.

Yes!

It’s time that you create your own agency and leverage others’ time with money.

But wait, I can’t find a good editor anywhere, How do I get one?

I know this is a serious problem that’s why I’m giving away a list of 400 video editors with the link to their portfolio as well as their rates in my course.

So that you can just email and book them right away.

Even after having the best editor, it still gets hard to manage multiple clients together.

For that, I have provided a list of 150 VAs whom you can hire at just $150-$250 a month to keep everything in check.

But obviously, running an agency is so much more than just hiring.

The main thing you need to understand here is once you start your agency, you’ll need to go away from working IN the business to working ON the business.

(And make sure you register your company with the government of your country, don’t miss it)

FOUR STEP

Yeah, there are only four steps to creating a huge ass video editing business.

But there is so much more in those four steps that I can’t just mention in one newsletter.

So reply to this email with a specific thing that you wanna learn about and I’ll make sure to write a newsletter on that.
