Before diving into professional video editing,

It's important to have a strong understanding of the basics.

Learn how to navigate and use the editing software of your choice,

• Sound Designing

• Visual Effects

2. Steal From Others

Watch their tutorials and breakdowns.

Try to copy the editing style of the videos you love the most.

3. Practice What you Learn

The more you edit, the more you'll learn.

So it's important to practice as much as possible.

This can include working on:

• Personal Projects

• Editing Videos For Friends

4. Build Your Portfolio

As you gain experience,

Start building a portfolio of your work to showcase your skills.

This can include videos you've edited for friends, family, or any projects you've worked on.

You can use these tools to create a portfolio:

• Wix

• Carrd

5. Use Online Resources

When I was starting out, it was hard to find good resources.

Now that I've succeeded,

Attend film festivals and industry events.

Join editing groups and forums online.

Make connections with other editors and filmmakers.

7. Specialize in one

While it's important to have a general understanding of all aspects of video editing,

It can be beneficial to specialize in a specific area such as documentary editing, commercial editing, or visual effects.

I specialize in YouTube video editing,

Define your specialization.

Don’t be Jack of all trades, Master of None.

8. Keep learning

The world of video editing is constantly changing,

So it's important to stay current with new technologies and techniques.

Take classes, attend workshops, and read industry publications to stay on top of the latest developments in the field.

Learning should be a never ending process.

9. Learn Storytelling

As a video editor,

One of the most important things is to tell a story.

Learn how to convey a message and emotion to the audience.

Understand the principles of storytelling,

And use them to hook viewers to your content.
